Vietnam has enacted a comprehensive legal framework recognizing cryptocurrency assets, marking a pivotal shift in the nation''s approach to digital finance. The legislation categorizes digital assets into two distinct classes: crypto assets and virtual assets. Crypto assets encompass blockchain-based instruments like Bitcoin and Ethereum, which utilize encryption for creation and transfer. Virtual assets, meanwhile, are defined as investment vehicles excluding regulated products such as securities or CBDCs.

The law empowers Vietnamese authorities to establish operational guidelines, enforce AML/CTF protocols, and oversee market participants. This regulatory clarity is expected to accelerate institutional adoption while mitigating systemic risks. Beyond financial markets, the policy signals Vietnam''s strategic focus on emerging technologies—including AI and semiconductor development—as part of a broader digital economic transformation.
